About the cam and crank angle sensors on your car

A crank angle sensor is the most important sensor in modern day engines. It is a component used to monitor the position or rotational speed of the crankshaft. This information is used by engine management systems (link to EMS page) to control ignition system (link ignition system page) to timing and other engine parameters. Before electronic crank angle sensors were available, the distributor would have to be manually adjusted to a timing mark on the engine.

The crank angle sensor can be used in combination with a similar camshaft position sensor to monitor the relationship between the pistons and valves in the engine, which is particularly important in engines with variable valve timing. It is also commonly the primary source for the measurement of engine speed in revolutions per minute.

If your car is not starting or starts and then cuts out after a few minutes of driving, has an intermittent problem or engine warning light is on in your dashboard, you should have your car checked immediately.

We can check and if required replace your car’s cam or crank sensors, or other related system components such as Distributors, Distributor Caps, Ignition Coils, Coil Packs, Ignition Modules, Ignition Leads, and Batteries.
